Here are some of Liz’s favorite common cold herbs that we carry in our clinic.
She recommends keeping these herbs & supplements on-hand in a cool, dry place so they are readily available at the first sign of the common cold. Some of these can be taken daily during cold and flu season. Please note that for colds that develop into a cough or sinus infection, different herbs would be needed under the advisement of your acupuncturist. These are recommended as a good place to start or for daily prevention as indicated.
Super Bio-Vegetarian Immune Support by Priority One
This is a great formula to have in your home herbal medicine cabinet. Keep it on hand and take at the first sign of a cold or take a daily lower dose for immune support during the cold and flu season. It is a combination of immune strengthening vitamins and western herbs including echinacea, myrrh, goldenseal and shiitake. This is a go-to in our medicine cabinet and it has an interesting spicy scent.
Black Elderberry Syrup by Gaia Herbs
High in Vitamin C, this great tasting syrup provides effective immune support for adults and kids. It is also fantastic for soothing coughs. The nighttime formulation has extra herbs to facilitate a healthy night’s sleep, which we all know is a good thing when coughs are involved.
Lonicera Complex by Evergreen Herbs
Lonicera by Evergreen Herbs is quite effective if taken at the immediate onset of a common cold. This formula combines a traditional Chinese Herbal formula called Yin Qiao with western herbs for the treatment of colds and viruses. It is a great formula to have at home and if taken immediately, can nip that cold in the bud! If symptoms worsen or the cold is not caught on the first day, a different formula is most likely necessary. We have herbs for sinus infections, sore throats or coughs for example.
We wish you excellent health during the winter season and every day!
