From the ORM Fertility Acupuncture Team
COVID-19 UPDATE Aug 2021: Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the acupuncture team at ORM is not currently offering acupuncture on-site at ORM Fertility. However, all acupuncturists are available within their individual practices and are accepting new patients!
We encourage all interested ORM patients to contact one of the acupuncturists for a consultation. Typically, weekly acupuncture treatment are advised to help prepare for IUI, egg retrieval and/or embryo transfer. The time leading up to your treatment cycle is an excellent opportunity to invest in preconception health with a trusted complementary health practitioner.
Each of the providers can advise you on how acupuncture can assist your unique fertility process, and help support your emotional resilience as you build your family.

Let acupuncture and Chinese medicine help support you on your journey to parenthood. The goal of the acupuncture team is to support healthy parents, so they may have healthy babies. Many women experience stress and anxiety during their fertility treatments. Acupuncture can help relieve stress and may relieve the physical symptoms you experience during your treatment cycle(s).
The team of acupuncturists works together with your ORM Physicians, nursing staff and case coordinators. This can lead to a greater feeling of support, resilience and well-being.It’s easy to sign up for acupuncture on the day of transfer. Simply let your cycle coordinator at ORM know in advance.
Research suggests that women who supplement their fertility journey with acupuncture may have more successful IVF cycles, more live births, and are healthier mothers with healthier babies. In our experience, early and regular preparation with acupuncture and Chinese medicine can lead to better outcomes.
Why Acupuncture for Fertility at ORM Fertility?
Acupuncture is part of the Chinese system of medicine that has evolved into an effective treatment with many modern applications. The maximum benefits from acupuncture on fertility outcomes are seen with early preparation and regular treatment that includes dietary and lifestyle advice, and if appropriate, Chinese herbs. Our acupuncture team advises starting treatment as soon as you know you will be planning an IVF cycle and continuing through your entire cycle for the best results.
Acupuncture has been shown to increase blood flow to the uterus and ovaries, increase uterine lining thickness and it may improve the response to the IVF medications. In a 2015 study of IVF patients, an average of 14 acupuncture sessions (including the two sessions on the day of embryo transfer and an additional session 5-7 days after transfer) was associated with more live births and fewer biochemical pregnancies.
After you become pregnant, the acupuncture team recommends you continue acupuncture through the first trimester in order to help maintain a healthy pregnancy and relieve the common symptoms experienced during that time.
